"It'd be a massive signing" - Journalist reacts as Chelsea could now sign £67.5m "leader"

Chelsea target Matthijs de Ligt would be a “massive signing” for Thomas Tuchel’s side, says journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Blues are in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer and have reportedly identified the Juventus star as a target.

According to talkSPORT, Chelsea are interested in signing De Ligt as they look to replace Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Rudiger has joined Real Madrid after opting against putting pen to paper on a new deal at Stamford Bridge, while Christensen is expected to follow the German to Spain by moving to Barcelona.

The above leaves Chelsea needing to bring in new central defenders, with De Ligt seemingly an option.

He is unlikely to come cheap, however, having signed for Juventus for £67.5m back in 2019.

If the Blues end up signing the former Ajax man this summer, O’Rourke thinks he would be a huge addition.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “It’d be a massive signing for Chelsea. We all know the problems that they’ve got in their centre-back area for next season with Rudiger and Christensen leaving, so to get someone like De Ligt would be a big bonus for Chelsea.”

Absolutely, especially after what has happened with Rudiger and Christensen. They need new centre-backs and De Ligt is probably one of the best out there.
