Is Alexandro Bernabei value for money at £4 million?

As a possible deal for Argetinian left back Alexandro Bernabei draws closer, the latest report on the player comes from Anthony Joseph of Sky Sports. He maintains that Lanus are holding out for £4 million from our club.

When you take into account that Celtic paid Legia Warsaw £2.5 million for Josip Juranovic, a seasoned right back and a Croatian international who now has 20 caps for his country, you have to question if Bernabei is worth £4 million?

Bernabei is 21 and he has only been capped at under 19 level with Argentina. He has 60 appearances under his belt for Lanus, which for his age, is a decent number. But he has nowhere near the experience Juranovic has, who is now headed for the World Cup in Qatar.

So why the high price tag?

Celtic are not giving up on their interest in Bernabei, which means that Ange must see something special in the kid.

He has lightning pace, that cannot be disputed. Despite the fact he looks like he has a slight frame, his strength is deceiving. He is, in fact, very strong.

While Juranovic has 184 club appearances under his belt, over treble what Bernabei has, it can’t be argued that the Argentinian has played in an easy league. The Argentinian Primera League is a tough, intense and challenging league.

It is definitely of a better standard than the Scottish Premiership.
