Ireland target better times against West Indies on historic multi-format tour

Ireland captain Laura Delany is hoping to make up for their ICC T20I World Cup defeat to the West Indies when they embark on a historic multi-format tour in St Lucia.

Starting off on Monday, 26 June, they will play three ODIs against the Windies, before switching to the T20 format for three more fixtures from 4 July.

It comes four months after Ireland were eliminated from the World Cup after losing to the West Indies by six wickets.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport, Delany said going one better against the same opponents on their own turf was a target for the Irish team.

"We were very disappointed when we went over to the World Cup to not get over the line against the West Indies," she said.

"That was one game we targeted and it came very close but just didn't go our way in the end.

"So for us now to have the opportunity to go over there and play against them on home soil will be tough.

"But as we proved when we went over to Pakistan, we put in the performances that we want, we'll come away victorious."

Part of the preparation has involved facing the Ireland Under-15s and Delany is hopeful that experience will prove beneficial.

"We've played a few games against the boys' Under-15s, 40-over games, three of them, which have been brilliant," she said.

"They have been tough games but that's exactly what we want before we head away.

"We played a couple of games last year, but we've played three games which is great for us because they bowl a little bit quicker, their spinners bowl a little bit flatter and that's what we expect to face when we go over for the West Indies.

"They also hit the ball much harder and they run really quickly between the wickets. So it's been a really good challenge for us and given the fact that we haven't had any 50-over
