Ireland striker Leanne Kiernan pens new Liverpool deal

Republic of Ireland striker Leanne Kiernan has signed a new contract with Liverpool, the club has confirmed.

The Cavan native has committed her future to the Merseyside club, for whom she has scored 19 times in 47 appearances to date.

After joining Liverpool from West Ham United in the summer of 2021, Kiernan scored 13 goals for Matt Beard's team as they finished top of the FA Women's Championship in 2021/22, thus earning promotion to the Women's Super League.

A serious ankle injury suffered at the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign would eventually contribute to Kiernan missing out on a place in the Ireland squad for the 2023 World Cup in Australia, but she bounced back last season, scoring five goals as Liverpool finished fourth in the WSL.

"It's amazing, for sure. Liverpool is home for me, I'm just really enjoying myself here," the ex-Shelbourne player told the Liverpool website.

"I love the club, I love the fans, I love the people. We are very similar, the Irish and the Scousers, and I really feel at home here.

"It is massive for my family as well. Obviously they come over quite often, which is really nice, and it is the closest city to Dublin. They really enjoy coming over and when I told them I was getting a new contract they were ecstatic."
