Ireland beat the Netherlands as Shauna Kavanagh hangs up international pads

Ireland claimed a six-wicket victory over the Netherlands in their final Twenty20 International in Amstelveen to complete a 3-0 series win, with Shauna Kavanagh confirming her international retirement after the match.

Rebecca Stokell made an unbeaten 33 from 37 balls and Jane Maguire was not out on 23 from 20 as their unbroken stand of 50 for the fifth wicket saw Ireland overhaul 116 for six with five balls to spare.

The hosts put on their best display over the three matches through opener Iris Zwilling, who hit two fours and two sixes in her 56 off 58 balls.

Arlene Kelly led Ireland's bowling attack with two for 20 from her four overs, with wicketkeeper Amy Hunter completing three stumpings in the Dutch innings.

Robine Rijk was the pick of the Dutch attack with one for 14, while Zwilling's two overs with the new ball cost 21.

Kavanagh retires after 12 years of international service and is one of only nine women to make a century of appearances for the national side, with the Dubliner capped 110 times.

The 31-year-old will continue to play with Pembroke, but believes the time is right to step away from the international scene.

"I have been thinking about retirement for a little while and now feels like the right time to finish my playing journey with Ireland," she said.

"Playing cricket for Ireland has been a significant part of my life for a very long time and there is no doubt this will be an emotional transition."

Ireland's head coach Ed Joyce said Kavanagh will be greatly missed by the team.

"Shauna is the quintessential team player, a hard-working professional who was always seeking to improve and grow her game," he said.
