Andrew Omobamidele called up by Ireland due to John Egan concerns

Andrew Omobamidele has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad to play France and Netherlands in Euro 2024 qualifiers next week.

The Ireland squad are set to report into camp today ahead of the France qualifier on Thursday and the Netherlands fixture at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday.

The 21-year old centre-back, who recently moved to Premier League side Nottingham Forest, will now link up with the squad later today.

All other players named in the squad on Thursday will report as planned according to the FAI.

That includes Sheffield United's John Egan.

The defender picked up a knock in 2-2 draw with Everton yesterday to become a doubt for the fixtures.

United boss Paul Heckingbottom said: "If Ireland want to see and assess him then they will. If he's not fit, he doesn’t play and if he is, then he’ll play."

Nathan Collins, Dara O'Shea, Darragh Lenihan and Shane Duffy are the other options along with the new call-up Omobamidele.
