International Children's Games success for Law and District AAC athletes

Law and District AAC athletes have been enjoying success at both international and national events in the past few weeks.

Four young U15 athletes from across Lanarkshire were among 16 youngsters who were selected to represent Team South Lanarkshire at the International Children's Games in Coventry from 11-16 August, two of whom were Law and District AAC members.

Law’s Tehillah Ikechukwu Ononkwo and Owen Murphy, joined East Kilbride AC’s Angus Wilkinson and Larkhall YMCA Harriers’ Emma Clark to make up a quartet of Team SL track athletes. All practiced the 4x100m relay together for months before competing at the ICG Coventry 2022, just missing out in medal place finishing in fourth position.

Angus had two superb fast runs in the 1500m, winning gold in the final with a swift time of 4:07mins, taking the top spot from the Jerusalem, Israel athlete.

Tehillah and Emma had amazing runs in the 100m heats, semis and final, with Tehillah winning the silver medal, followed closely by Emma who finished in fourth place.

Owen also ran fantastic heats and semi in the 100m, missing out on medal position to take 4th place in the final.

With such a high standard of competition from young athletes all over the world, Team South Lanarkshire delegates and athletic Coaches Tom McTaggart and Lesley McNicol were so proud of all athletes.

Meanwhile, the U13, U15 and U20 National Track and Field Championships took place at Grangemouth on August 27 and 28.

There were many fine performances for Law athletes, with some impressive medal wins as follows:

U15 Owen Murphy – Championship titles, with championship best performances in both 100m and 200m, with times of 11.32s and 23s, respectively.

U13 Cameron Chambers – 800m silver

U15 Johann Gillon –
