Inside Ross McCausland's big Rangers moment as Steven Davis reveals what Clement really thinks of starlet

When his senior players were taking it in turns to go missing in action in Cyprus, Steven Davis turned to his bench and told Ross McCausland to get stripped.

Three days later, when the interim manager needed to dig out a result for his crisis ravaged side in Paisley, he entrusted McCausland by further fast-tracking the youngster into the starting line-up. It’s perhaps no surprise then that Davis believes his burgeoning countryman could yet have a significant role to play as the season goes down to the wire.

McCausland returned to centre stage again under Philippe Clement on Sunday as an early sub in the 2-0 Scottish Cup semi-final win over Hearts. And Davis said: “I think the future is bright for Ross. It’s up to him now to try and maintain that and kick on again. He got the opportunity under me to come into the side and when Philippe Clement came in he really liked what he saw and what he could bring to the team in terms of his creativity and runs in behind.

“He’s played in some big games now, he’s picked up a lot of experience in a short space of time. He’s been hindered slightly by injury but now he’s back fit it’s about him finding his feet again. Ross could play a big part between now and the end of the season.”
