Inside Oasis brothers Noel & Liam Gallagher’s tense meeting with Diego Maradona

Music royalty met football royalty when Liam and Noel Gallagher experienced what could only be described as a "scary" encounter with Diego Maradona.

In a shocking twist this week, the world was rocked by news that Oasis would reunite after a 15-year absence. Notorious for their passionate support of Manchester City, the famously feuding Gallagher brothers are big football fans.

So they weren't going to let up the opportunity of meeting Maradona. But the situation swiftly turned intense when the Argentinian legend jokingly threatened to "shoot" them.

Liam shared the tale, recalling how in 1997 Oasis had journeyed to Argentina for two sell-out gigs. At the height of their stardom in Buenos Aires, the pair crossed paths with Maradona while unwinding in their hotel bar.

The room's atmosphere shifted when his imposing entourage arrived. The Gallaghers turned to their translator, imploring him to set up a meeting.

Speaking to Noisey in 2017, Liam recalled: "We were going 'Who the f*****g hell's that?' We found out it was Maradona. He'd gone upstairs with a load of f*****g madheads, and a load of women of the night."

The interpreter then led them to an exclusive VIP area where Maradona was hanging out. Liam described the atmosphere as tense, with about 30 people in attendance and not much in the way of friendly vibes.
