Inside Manchester United academy: Ruben Amorim could give first-team debut to hidden gem

Hello and welcome to this week's Manchester United academy notebook.

The Manchester Evening News provide more coverage of United's academy than any other outlet and we experimented by publishing an academy notebook last season.

The notebook was brought back during the 2024/25 campaign and its purpose is to provide readers with digestible information about the current ongoings around the youth setup.

It will be published every Wednesday and here is the latest academy news...

"Jack Moorhouse can be considered a hidden gem in the academy, given his last few years were plagued by injuries," I wrote in the mid-season academy review, published in December.

"Moorhouse has put those problems behind him this term and seems unaffected. His ball-carrying prowess makes him stand out and he regularly drives the Under-21s down the pitch."

At the start of the season, I spoke to a senior member of academy staff about Moorhouse's ability and they admitted excitement at what he could achieve with a clean bill of health.

Moorhouse has made huge strides forward this term and it wasn't a surprise to see him included in the travelling squad to face Lyon. He was brilliant for the U21s earlier in the week against Nottingham Forest, and Ruben Amorim has previously named him on the bench against Tottenham and Arsenal.

He looks a perfect fit to play in one of the No.10 roles in Amorim's system and he's one a few youngsters who have caught the attention of United's head coach over the last few months.

When I spoke to Adam Lawrence last month, he said Jaydan Kamason has "really big potential" and the defender has been included in a first-team squad for the first time to face Lyon.
