Inside Brendan Rodgers' Celtic training session as players issued heat of battle 'be a voice' demand

Going behind the scenes of a Brendan Rodgers training session didn't work out too well for him in the past.

The now infamous Being Liverpool documentary by Amazon took fans behind the scenes at Melwood during the Irishman’s Anfield reign. But viewers scoffed at the much maligned “three envelopes” motivation technique, in which he claimed to have included the names of three players he thought were going to let the Reds down that season. It was an attempt to get more out of his men, previously used by Sir Alex Ferguson, and Rodgers later admitted there were no names written down at all.

In-house club media productions are far less candid, with footage carefully selected and edited for packages that gives fans a glimpse behind the scenes, but never the full picture. Celtic's latest clip from Portugal is fairly standard stuff; training clips in the sun set to house music that’s designed to drive social media engagement.

But an interesting snippet from Rodgers was left in as he addressed his squad during a session. And it gives an insight into how the players are given responsibility to manage matches and each other, without every instruction having to come from the touchline.

Rodgers says: "The second point I'm saying to you is: Coach your mate. When you're in the game, be a voice."
