'Insanely enjoyable' award-winning film with near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score is coming to Disney+

An award-winning film that had critics raving is joining Disney+ this March. Poor Things, hailed as 'an insanely enjoyable fairy tale,' was released in cinemas on January 12 and has since received a wave of international award nominations.

From director Yorgos Lanthimos, it stars Emma Stone as Bella Baxter, a young woman revived by an unorthodox scientist known as God (Willem Dafoe). Sheltered Bella is eager to learn and runs away with handsome lawyer Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo) in hopes of drinking in the wonders of the world.

The pair's whirlwind adventure opens Bella's eyes to some horrific truths. But she soon grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation - through a series of unlikely events.

The film is based on the book by Alasdair Gray, while the screenplay was written by Tony McNamara. As of March 4, it has grossed a worldwide total of $104.7 million.

Poor Things has earned a staggering amount of awards nominations, including 13 Critics' Choice Awards, 11 BAFTAs, seven Critics Choice Awards (where Stone won for Best Actress) and 11 Oscars. It also received seven nods at the Golden Globes, winning Best Motion Picture and Best Actress.

It's easy to see why - the period-comedy has been praised by critics, with David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter describing it as 'an insanely enjoyable fairy tale,' adding that Stone 'gorges on it in a fearless performance that traces an expansive arc most actors could only dream about.' Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian called it a 'virtuoso comic epic' and said that Stone had given a 'hilarious, beyond-next-level performance.'
