Ineos' familiar Man United problem could save Erik ten Hag's job

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is perhaps in one of the toughest jobs in football currently.

With recent results mixed at best, the expectation of a quick ascent back to the glory days and a new ownership lurking behind the scenes, there are very few managers at the top of the game who would envy the United man. There is a firm section of the fanbase that wishes Ineos would make the managerial switch with the goodwill following the FA Cup final eroding dramatically.

However, even if this is the course of action that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co. wish to take, their hands may well be tied. SportBild journalist Christian Falk reported on Saturday that one name believed to be on Ineos' radar is Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness.

The 42-year-old boasts an impressive record at the German club having led them to an incredible second place finish in the Bundesliga last season. This campaign has seen a modest start for Stuttgart but it is clear his reputation is high.

Falk believes that should United contact Hoeness again mid-season he would reject their advances as he has no intention of leaving mid-season, the summer could well be a different story, though.

Ultimately this issue is one that will follow Ineos around as they decide the future of Ten Hag. If they want to hire a manager on the up, they will have to wait until next summer as very few would be willing to leave their current job behind
