India vs Afghanistan: Virat Kohli Surpasses Sachin Tendulkar In Unwanted List With 1st Golden Duck In T20Is
Virat Kohli was dismissed for a golden duck for the first time ever in T20I cricket during the third match of the ongoing series against Afghanistan in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The star Indian cricket team batter needed just 6 runs to complete a historic 12,000 runs in T20 cricket but he ended up getting dismissed on the very first ball that he faced. Kohli wanted to play an elevated shot off the bowling of Fareed Ahmad but ended up miscuing it completely. It was an easy catch for Ibrahim Zadran at mid-off and the Afghanistan skipper made no mistake leaving the Bengaluru crowd disappointed. This was his 35th duck in international cricket - the most by any India specialist batter who batted in the Top 7.
The unwanted record previously belonged to Sachin Tendulkar who had 34 international ducks in his career. Overall, the record belongs to Zaheer Khan with 44 ducks in international cricket.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat in the third and final T20I.
India are leading the series 2-0 and they will look to sweep the series. This is their last T20I before the much-awaited T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place later this year in the West Indies and the United States.
India have made three changes in their side. The hosts brought in Sanju Samson, Avesh Khan and Kuldeep Yadav in place of Jitesh Sharma, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel respectively.
"We will bat first. We bowled in the first two games, so we'll bat today. Nothing to do with the wicket, just want to try some combinations and give some chances. We have ticked a few boxes, this is another opportunity to try new faces. We have made three changes -Sanju, Avesh and Kuldeep are in. Axar, Jitesh and Arshdeep are out," Rohit said at the time
