Incoming Liverpool boss Arne Slot accused of telling 3 lies about Tottenham

Arne Slot is feeling the fury of some within the Dutch media - with a well-known pundit accusing him of LYING about his torpedoed move to Tottenham.

The Dutchman is on the verge of a move to Liverpool having won the race to replace Jurgen Klopp. A year ago, he was in Spurs' cross hairs, but talks infamously collapsed before Ange Postecoglou was recruited from Celtic. Slot has spoken about it frequently since, indicating it was his decision not to move, in favour of staying at home for a crack at the Champions League with Feyenoord.

But veteran pundit Henk Spaan simply wasn't having that narrative as he spoke on the Hard Gras podcast. He claims it wasn't Slot's call, but Feyenoord's, who weren't entertaining Tottenham's initial offer, and that led to the talks breaking down.

In a spiky assessment of Slot, he said: "He told that (lie) three times, but Spurs stopped negotiating. Dennis te Kloese (Feyenoord's general manager) thought it was a worthless offer. Slot is now acting as if he pulled the plug, but that is simply not the case. Tottenham Hotspur just didn't want to pay more."

It's believed Liverpool will pay close to £10m for Slot and his backroom team and he claimed after talks with Spurs collapsed that taking his own people with him was a crucial factor. Speaking last summer, Slot said: “The decisive factor was playing the Champions League. he fantastic work with the staff and the players, the fact that I’m having a great time privately and being able to build on the past two seasons.

“I didn’t know what would happen (with Tottenham). I weighed everything up, including whether the people who work with me would want to come with me. My intention is to stay, because that already raises an expectation.”
