In-form Róisín Ní Riain fourth in 100m breaststroke final

Róisín Ní Riain narrowly missed out on another bronze medal as she finished in fourth position in the 100m breaststroke SB13 final at the Madeira 2022 Para Swimming World Championships.

The 17-year-old from Limerick was the youngest swimmer on the starting blocks but she clocked a new personal best of one minute 19.26 seconds, with Colleen Young of the United States edging out Germany's Elena Krawzow for gold. Britain's Rebecca Redfern rounded out the podium places.

Ní Riain, who claimed bronze in the 100m butterfly on Sunday, said afterwards: "Breaststroke has always been an event for me that’s just fun. But definitely coming fourth there, it just shows that if I put a lot more work into it, it could improve a lot in the future so that’s something I’ll definitely go home and have a good think about."

Amy Sheridan (S9 100m butterfly), Nicole Turner, (SM6 200m individual medley) and Barry McClements (S9 100m butterfly) are the Irish swimmers in action in Madeira on the third day of competition.
