Impressive Saints cruise past Cork in Inchicore

St Patrick's Athletic claimed their second win on the spin thanks to a 4-0 win over Cork City.

Jake Mulraney set them on their way with a low first-half finish, with Jason McClelland, Jamie Lennon and Mark Doyle getting in on the act.

And the win moves the Saints up to seventh in the table, as they went two points clear of Shelbourne in eighth.

However, it was Colin Healy's side who came charging out of the blocks the quickest with Daniel Krezic going close.

The Swedish native rose highest to meet a Ruairi Keating cross, but Dean Lyness got down well to save his goalbound effort.

That chance seemed to have woken the hosts up from their early slumber and they then went close shortly after through Eoin Doyle and Sam Curtis.

Jamie Lennon then missed a gilt-edged opportunity as he saw his shot on target hit the side-netting as the Saints showed their quality in the forward areas.

And their endeavour was rewarded when they took the lead in the 16th minute through Mulraney.

The Dubliner swept home a devilish ball in from Eoin Doyle – as he netted his third goal in as many games for the Athletic.

But as the half progressed the visitors grew into the game and almost levelled through Keating, but his effort clipped off the bar and stayed out of the net.

And despite looking a threat in the second half, the visitors' spirit was broken when McClelland found the net from distance after the hour mark.

The former UCD star picked up the ball following a Joe Redmond header, and he found the net with City opting to sit back rather than close him down.

Lennon then made up for his earlier miss with his goal to make it 3-0 as he nodded home Mulraney’s cross from the left.
