Trees down and golf halted as poor weather hits Augusta

The second round of the Masters at Augusta National ground to a halt this evening as the forecasted inclement weather descended on the Georgia golf course as high winds caused trees to fall over, narrowly missing spectators and players.

There had been what proved to be a short delay about an hour before the latest set-back but luckily the players were quickly hustled back on the course. But the promised poor weather eventually arrived and with it came the inevitable delay.

With several trees down around the course, a grounds crew quickly got to work clearing the debris. It is unclear if we will see any more action on Friday from Augusta. Thankfully, Augusta National were able to confirm that no injuries had occured on the grounds.

Due to inclement weather conditions, Augusta National Golf Club was forced to suspend play at 4:22 p.m. EDT and, subsequently, evacuated the grounds. Further updates will be announced once available.

The majority of the early starters managed to get their second set of 18 holes in, with leader Brooks Koepka adding a tidy 67 to his opening 65 to hold a commanding lead going into the weekend.

Rory McIlroy's Masters dream turned into a nightmare when he shot a five-over 77 to miss the cut, which looks like landing around two-over par although the weather will play a big part in deciding who gets to stick around for what promises to be a very long Easter weekend.
