Ilkay Gundogan sends rallying cry to Man City teammates after RB Leipzig draw

Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan urged the Blues to remain focused after Pep Guardiola's side drew with RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Guardiola's men scored first against the Bundesliga outfit at the Red Bull Arena, with Riyad Mahrez once again getting on the scoresheet for the away side. However, the German side responded through Josko Gvardiol's towering header to keep the tie finely poised ahead of the return leg at the Etihad.

Despite failing to get the win in the first leg, Gundogan insisted that the Blues created enough chances to come away with a victory, before backing the reigning Premier League champions to get the job done in the reverse leg.

"The performance, especially in the first half, was really good," he told club media. "At the end as well, we had a couple of chances to get the winner. Unfortunately it was not meant to be. It was the expected difficult second half. At the end of the day, it's a good result to take home. Obviously now, we have to finish the job at the Etihad.

"Our game was a bit sloppy in the second half. We allowed them to get opportunities in transition. This is the Champions League, simple things get punished easily."

The Blues welcome the German club to the Etihad for the second leg on March 14. Meanwhile, City return to Premier League action at the weekend, with Guardiola's men travelling to Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
