Ilkay Gundogan's agent addresses Man City captain's future amid Barcelona transfer links

Ilkay Gundogan's agent and uncle, Ilhan, says the Manchester City midfielder has not agreed to sign with any club on a free transfer this summer, contrary to reports in Spain.

The City captain, who has just two-and-a-half months remaining on his current Blues contract, can negotiate with overseas clubs before becoming a free agent at the end of June. Barcelona are the subject of persistent links with signing the 32-year-old once the summer transfer window opens.

Reports in the Catalan capital have even suggested that an agreement is already in place for the midfielder to move. The player's agent insists that is not the case.

"I am surprised where the stories about an agreement closed for many weeks come from," Gundogan's uncle told the Spanish sports newspaper AS. "There is still no agreement with any club. It's not yet decided where he will play in the next few years.

"Ilkay can still win three major trophies this season as captain of Manchester City. That's the only thing he's focused on right now."

City manager Pep Guardiola admitted ahead of Saturday's match against Leicester that he would love Gundogan and Bernardo Silva, whose future is also uncertain, to stay beyond this season.

"We are lucky to have these types of football players as human beings in your team," the Catalan coach said. "You would love to have him forever. I do not know what is going to happen, so the club take the lead and decide everything."
