Ilias Chair issues honest verdict on QPR’s season

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Ilias Chair has admitted that the club expected more from their 2021/22 campaign. 

QPR looked like challenging for at least a top six spot for most of the campaign, but in the end, fell well short, finishing 11th in the division.

After such a poor ending to the season, it was recently confirmed that boss Mark Warburton would be leaving the club once his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Reflecting on the season, Chair offered an honest assessment.

“Obviously we expected more, the fans deserve more and as players we wanted more,” Chair said, via QPR club media.

“But, this is football – we must move on and hopefully challenge next season.

“We have been a bit inconsistent, some games we have really played well, and others have been not so good.

“But, we have to learn from it, especially us as young players, we have to correct it and ensure we have a bright future ahead of us.”

Chair himself had a good campaign individually, scoring nine goals and registering five assists in 38 Championship appearances.

The 24-year-old also registered three assists in three matches in the EFL cup.

Reflecting on his own performances, Chair said it was a season that was good for his development, but insisted he still has a lot to learn.

“The season has been good for my development, I am my biggest self-critic and I will never be satisfied with what I have done this year.” he added.

“There’s a lot to learn for myself and that’s what I must do these coming years, every single season I need to get better and better and hopefully that’s what I will do.

“I will now take my time off; I have international work with Morocco and then we will see what’s happening and go again.”
