"If they do go down..." - talkSPORT reporter drops major Everton claim on Frank Lampard

Everton are likely to stand by Frank Lampard regardless of whether they suffer the ‘absolute disaster’ of being relegated to the Championship, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The Toffees are in serious danger of losing their top flight status as they are just two points clear of the Premier League’s drop zone with days of the season remaining.

Lampard was appointed as Everton’s manager on deadline day of the January transfer window, with him signing a two-and-a-half year contract which ties him down to Goodison Park until the summer of 2024.

The Toffees hierarchy turned to Lampard after opting to sack Rafa Benitez just six-and-a-half months after handing him the managerial reins.

Lampard inherited a squad low on confidence, having secured only five domestic wins – and one since September – under the Spaniard.

The current boss has also chalked up a quintet of Premier League victories to aid Everton’s push for Premier League survival, but they are not out of the woods yet.

In all competitions, Lampard has led the Merseyside outfit to seven triumphs – including against the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea – in 19 fixtures.

Crook believes Everton owner Farhad Moshiri will opt against making another managerial change if the club are demoted to the Championship.

However, the talkSPORT reporter reckons failing to remain in the Premier League will have a major knock-on effect financially.
