'If I was a Man United fan' - Graham Potter and Thomas Tuchel verdict cast as manager decision looms

Michael Owen says there are simply "not many names jumping off the page" at present, should Manchester United opt to find a new manager over sticking with Erik ten Hag.

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS Group acquired a 25 percent stake in the club, the Englishman is understood to not have full confidence in United's current manager. During his maiden campaign in England, Ten Hag took the club to a third-placed finish in the Premier League along with Carabao Cup success - but this season has been much different with his side 11 points off Champions League qualification with 11 matches remaining.

Ratcliffe is said to have analysed a list of potential successors should they choose to oust the Dutchman from his position, however former striker Owen does not really understand who the club could turn to in the current climate.

"I can see why Graham Potter and Thomas Tuchel have been mentioned but I don’t think it’s the most amazing list of available managers out there at the moment when you consider all the big jobs that could potentially come up for grabs in the summer," he said.

"If I was a Manchester United fan I would want somebody that is going to play and set up something in a distinct way and work towards that. There are lots of managers out there that have an identity in terms of style of play. If I was a Manchester United fan that is what I would want."

This comes only a few days since United's 3-1 Manchester derby defeat at the Etihad Stadium - following which Owen blasted Ten Hag and called for his sacking.
