Ian Evatt's verdict on if Bolton Wanderers' Amadou Bakayoko deserved red card vs Doncaster Rovers

Ian Evatt felt Bolton Wanderers attacker Amadou Bakayoko did not deserve a red card for his strong first half challenge against Adam Clayton in the win over Doncaster Rovers.

Wanderers took the lead after the break thanks for Bakayoko slotting home after being found in the box by Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

The hosts got back on level terms thanks to substitute Mipo Odubeko smashing past James Trafford to give Donny hope.

But Wanderers scored not long after when former Donny man Kieran Sadlier fired home a marvellous volley from Dapo Afolayan's pass to ensure the visitors took home the three points on Good Friday with a 2-1 win.

A big moment came towards the end of the first half when Bakayoko's late challenge on Clayton resulted in a yellow card being brandished by referee James Oldham.

The home supporters and team, including members of the Doncaster dugout, felt perhaps a red card ought to have been shown, but Evatt believes the yellow was the correct call.

He said: “For me it’s not a red card. It’s an innocent tackle. It’s one leg, his foot is pointed towards the floor, it wasn’t high or anything like that and I just don’t want to see people trying to get players sent off.

"It’s not ideal and when players surround officials and a member of their coaching staff is screaming for players to be red carded, I think it’s not acceptable.

“It became heated on the sides and obviously not with the two people that I’m friendly with (Gary McSheffrey and Steve Eyre) but with the other one.

"I keep saying we will fight for our own. We won’t do anything that we feel is out of order, we want to just stick up for our own players
