Ian Evatt issues lessons Bolton Wanderers must learn for League One season after Ipswich opener

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt expects higher standards from his side after their League One opener against Ipswich.

Wanderers take on Wycombe at the weekend looking to pick up their first victory of the campaign, with a difficult first two fixtures to contend with. A point away at Ipswich may have been seen as a positive for some, but Evatt has been clear that he expects improvements continually from his side as they look to make a promotion push this time around.

Whilst in-possession Bolton could well have improved on the day last weekend, out of possession there were positive signs surrounding the adaptability against strong opponents that could serve them well throughout the campaign.

“I have learned that we can be loads better than what we were on Saturday, I know that. I think out of possession was generally good. I think we controlled the game first half not really through our own possession, but through out of possession and that is another string to our bow," Evatt said.

"If we are not having a good day with the ball, we can still have a good day without the ball. And when we go to certain places this season, we are going to have to do that because it is not going to be nice all of the time. What disappointed me was we created some good opportunities in transition and didn’t really have the execution or the calmness to pick them off and choose the right decision.

"But we managed to stay in the game, we were resolute. We worked hard, put bodies on the line and got out of there without a defeat. I must emphasise that since January when this squad of players came together, this team doesn’t lose easily. We
