Bolton Wanderers vs Aston Villa LIVE: Build-up, early team news, match updates & reaction

Bolton Wanderers are aiming to cause a giant killing this evening and claim the scalp of Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup.

The Whites takes on the Premier League side in a second round clash this evening at the University of Bolton Stadium. Kick-off is at 7.45pm.

Wanderers will be seeking to dump Steven Gerrard's side out of the competition and reach the third round of the cup. The next stage sees sides involved in European competitions enter the fray, such as the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

But those hopes will follow should the Whites beat the Villans. It is a huge task in front of them and one which the League One sides will be firmly the underdogs in.

With Gerrard having a Premier League squad to call upon, whatever side the Villa boss puts out will no doubt be a tough test with lots of top flight experience. The likes of Philippe Coutinho, John McGinn, Ollie Watkins and promising youngster Cameron Archer could feature.

Wanderers' priority is also League One and challenging for promotion out of that division this season. Evatt is poised to rotate his squad but the Whites have nothing to lose and everything to gain this evening as they seek to dump the Villa out in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

We'll be live throughout the evening to cover events at the University of Bolton Stadium. We'll bring you all the build-up, team news, match action and reaction from Ian Evatt to see if Wanderers can defy expectations and reach the third round.
