Chris Maguire is out to celebrate his birthday in style by setting up a dream FA Cup tie at home to Manchester United for tiny Eastleigh – 14 years after he made headlines by wrecking Robbie Keane’s debut for his boyhood heroes Celtic.

The former Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Ayr United man joined the National League outfit this season and scored the late penalty for his 10-man side against League Two Newport County that earned them a replay for the right to host Erik ten Hag’s giants in the fourth round.

Maguire, who turns 34 and earned two Scotland caps, knows all about pulling off shocks after he scored the only goal at Rugby Park in 2010 that saw Irish superstar Keane’s Hoops debut end in a shock loss – their first to Killie in almost a decade – just 24 hours after he had arrived at Parkhead in a whirlwind loan move from Tottenham Hotspur. The former Sheffield Wednesday man also revealed that Manchester United were the English club he supported as a boy which makes the potential meeting even more special.

And speaking ahead of Eastleigh’s huge tie, Spitfires star Maguire said: "It would be a great achievement. Manchester United are obviously one of the biggest clubs in the world. Growing up as a kid my English team was Manchester United. That was the team that I liked to watch. I played them some years ago in a testimonial match when I was back in Scotland at Aberdeen. To play them in a competitive game would be really special.
