'I went on holiday to Rhodes after wildfires and the island has bounced back'

A sun-drenched stay on a Greek island is on the top of many travellers' wishlists. If you’ve always fancied a Greek getaway, then now might be the perfect time.

In July several islands were hit by wildfires, including Rhodes, but now that the fierce summer heat is over the fires have long since gone. The holiday destination is back up and running and with temperatures still reaching the early 30s at this time of year, it’s an ideal place for an autumn break.

Rhodes is an island rich in history and it’s populated by some of the most hospitable people in the world. It’s a destination well set up for families, couples and lone travellers looking for an island escape.

To see what Rhodes has to offer visitors following the wildfires, the Mirror's Milo Boyd went on a trip to this stunning Greek island. Here’s what he found out.

Just two hotels of the 546 hotels on the island were burnt in the fire, with the majority many miles from the now extinguished flames. Even those that were close are back up and running and bustling again.

I stayed at the Aegean Park in Kolymbia, an all inclusive hotel with 189 rooms ranging from around £400 for a family of four. You’ll find swim up pools and Playstations in the most luxurious rooms, but all have access to a variety of swimming spots, flumes, an excellent buffet and bar run by cheerful tenders until 1am. The hotel is mostly populated by Brits and Swedes, with activities including a 7am run, silent movie night and pool aerobics laid on in both languages.
