The 'biggest' horror film season in the north taking place in Manchester next month

With Halloween season fast approaching, the 'biggest' horror film season in the north is coming to Manchester.

STAB, being held at GRUB’s in-house cinema Cultplex, on Red Bank in Cheetham Hill, will feature the likes of Beetlejuice, Ginger Snaps and Killer Klowns From Outer Space alongside a 'Surprise Zombie Movie All Nighter' to get people in the spooky spirit.

Kicking off on October 1 with a marathon of the first four Scream movies, the film season will now run all month long for the first time following a successful weekend event last year. This year’s STAB will conclude with haunting screenings of The Monster Squad and An American Werewolf in London on Halloween.

The season will also include screenings of BBC’s 1984 documentary-style, nuclear holocaust freak-out Threads (October 7) alongside cult faves Phantasm, Nightbreed (October 27) and the little-seen but much-loved The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue (October 14).

The Zombie All Nighter, on October 28 from 10pm, will feature ‘an onslaught of zombie films hand-picked by Cultplex’s obsessive programmers’ running until the morning and has been described as a ‘must for any horror and zombie nerd’.

Formerly known as Chapeltown Picture House, the cinema will also screen The Nightmare Before Christmas - up to you whether it’s classed as a Halloween film or not - on October 29 as part of the event, offering up some lighter spooky relief to proceedings.

In addition, special events including regular Cultplex favourites like Quiz Show, comedy short film night Adult Film Club and MAGL (renamed Maghoul) will get a haunting makeover. There will also be a A Lovely Time’s Simpsons
