Andy Myler to depart UCD at the end of the season

Andy Myler will leave UCD at the end of the SSE Airtricity League Men's Premier Division season.

The club confirmed the news this evening as the Students make final preparations for tomorrow's clash with league leaders Shamrock Rovers at Belfield.

Current assistant manager Willie O'Connor will manage the team for the 2024 season.

"The club wishes to express its thanks to Andrew for his tireless work since being appointed in 2019 and wishes to draw special attention to his exceptional successes in his time as Manager," a statement read.

Myler took over at Belfield ahead of the 2020 campaign, guiding the Students to a third-placed finish in the First Division that year.

They lost out to Longford Town in the play-off semi-final but managed to go up the following season after a victory over Waterford at Richmond Park.

Favoured by many to go down last season, College managed to recover from a slow start to finish ahead of Finn Harps in the top flight.

It meant another trip to the promotion/relegation play-off final where they once against beat Waterford, with Tommy Lonergan scoring the crucial goal at Inchicore.

It was the first time UCD had managed to do back to back top flight campaigns since they avoided the drop in 2013.

"Despite a number of senior players moving on," the statement said of their 2022 survival, "Andy managed to reshape a young squad and keep the club in the Premier Division, marking a tremendous achievement.

"He has played an integral role in the development of the club's talent since his appointment and leaves with the best wishes and thanks from all associated with the club."

The loss of more senior players this year means that UCD are on the brink of relegation and will have their return to the First Division
