I was shocked when I spotted what Anthony Elanga did when Nottingham Forest scored vs Man United

Manchester United’s defeat to Nottingham Forest means the Reds have suffered nine losses in their 20 Premier League matches this season.

Goals from Nicolas Dominguez and Morgan Gibbs-White were enough to relegate Marcus Rashford’s third goal of the season to a consolation only. It’s another step back for United, who beat Aston Villa 3-2 on Boxing Day.

The defeat means United could slip to ninth if other results go against them this weekend. They will be at least nine points from a top-four spot by the time they play in the league again. Here are a number of things United fans may have missed throughout the 90 minutes.

Kobbie Mainoo was taken off for Scott McTominay at half-time and United looked more vulnerable, struggling to maintain control in midfield. Both goals came from the area that Mainoo had occupied in the first half as the Reds did little to cope with the home side’s momentum.

Mainoo has played in a deeper role since his return from injury and has done well. He has arguably been the team’s most consistent player and his absence in the second period ultimately cost United.

Anthony Elanga was let go by United in the summer and proved to be a headache for his former club on Saturday. There were no quelled reactions from the winger when Forest scored their first, the Reds academy graduate joining in the celebrations against his boyhood club.

He then teed up Gibbs-White for the winner to hit back at his former team. Then at full-time, the Sweden international held a long embrace with new boss Nuno Espirito Santo with a massive smile. No room for former ties, it seems.
