I was fuming by how Man United treated me - I joined Nottingham Forest and kick-started my career

Dean Henderson's spell with Manchester United may be remembered for that outburst over his "treatment" by the club in 2022. The goalkeeper left United for Crystal Palace in 2023 in a deal worth £20million after a number of loan spells - including one at the club's next opponents.

Henderson spent 12 years at Carrington after joining at the age of 14 from Carlisle United, but he managed only 29 appearances. He played for Stockport County, Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury Town, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest on loan before his switch to Palace.

He played 26 times for United in the 2020/2021 season before seeing game time limited the following campaign. In 2022, he moved to Forest and almost immediately burnt his bridges at Carrington; leaving permanently a year later.

In an outspoken interview with radio station talkSPORT, the England international slated United for going back on promises over his minutes - claiming he "wasted" 12 months of his career. It's understood that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer informed Henderson that he would be his first-choice going into the 2021/2022 but a nasty bout of Covid-19 meant David De Gea returned between the posts.

"I turned so many good loans down last [that] summer for that reason [being promised the No.1 spot]," Henderson said. "And they wouldn't let me go. It was frustrating. To sit there and waste 12 months is criminal really, at my age, and I was fuming."
