'I wanted to die after what he did to me'

A man who sexually assaulted a girl told police: "I've never made anyone do anything they didn't want to do." Jordan Appleby, 28, left his victim feeling 'dirty', a court heard.

The girl was shown a video of Appleby having sex. She was filmed performing an indecent act without her consent. Prosecutor Gavin Howie told Manchester Crown Court: "The defendant did not ask and she accepted she did not refuse though she knew it was not right.

"She knew she did not want to have sex and she said she felt dirty." Appleby was arrested after the victim raised the alarm. He told officers: "I've never raped anyone. I've never made anyone do anything they didn't want to do."

Appleby pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual activity with a child. He was initially charged with two counts of rape, but alternative pleas were accepted by prosecutors.

In a statement read in court, the victim said: "I felt like I couldn't say anything to anyone. I felt like I had to be silent. Like I had done something wrong. I felt like I was being judged and I felt isolated.

"At the time, I felt like I wanted to die. I realise now that it was not my fault. If I think about him, it triggers me."

Mitgating, Robert Fitt said Appleby had no previous convictions. "He never denied sexual contact," he added. "He has been straight forward throughout. This is a young man who will not appear before the courts again."

Judge Sarah Johnston told Appleby: "She didn't know how to react. She knew it was wrong and she was left in a state of confusion, feeling used and soiled. She described feeling guilty. She is entirely blameless. She was a child at the time and she was taken advantage of."
