I want to return to Milan with AFCON trophy, says Chukwueze

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has said he plans to return to AC Milan as the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champion.

Chukwueze has featured in all of the Eagles’ three group games which saw them record two wins and one draw.

After coming on as a substitute in the first game against Equatorial Guinea, Chukwueze was in the starting line-ups against Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau.

Up next for Jose Peseiro’s men is a round-of-16 clash with rivals Cameroon on Saturday.

Looking forward to the knockout tie, Chukwueze stated he wants to go back to Milan with the trophy.

“I can’t leave Milan to come here and not win a trophy, I really need it,” Chukwueze said via Calciomercato.

“I want to make my country proud and I don’t want to waste my club’s time for nothing. I have to fight for my position and win.”

The last time the Eagles faced Cameroon at the AFCON was also in the round of 16 at the 2019 tournament in Egypt.

A brace from Odion Ighalo and a strike from Alex Iwobi secured a 3-2 win for the Eagles under Gernot Rohr.

For Cameroon, they will be looking for a first AFCON win against the Eagles since the 2000 edition co-hosted by Ghana and Nigeria.

The Indomitable Lions triumphed 3-2 on penalty shootout after 120 minutes of football ended 2-2.
