"I visited 'one of the best places to live in the UK' and now I'm packing my bags"
A stunning village just 30 miles away from Manchester was recently named one of the best places to live in the UK. Parbold, in Lancashire, was named in in the Sunday Times Best Places to Live in 2025.
In the report, judges wrote: "The village of Parbold delivers history, convenience, and culture in the space of less than one square mile, along with a hearty dose of community spirit that creates a happy blend.
"From dance classes for parents, grandparents, and babies at the Women's Institute to bridge classes in the hall and poetry mornings at the library, there's no shortage of activities to get involved in."
With such high praise placed over the village, Liverpool ECHO reporter, Megan Banner, just had to visit the former industrial township in West Lancashire.
After reading how highly Parbold was ranked and having never visited, my curiosity got the better of me. I decided to drive to the village to see if it truly is one of the best places to live in the UK. As I drove into Parbold, located near Skelmersdale, I was awestruck by its beauty.
The picturesque area features local shops, pubs, stunning views, and a lookout point overlooking the Pennine Hills. Honestly, after spending just one afternoon there, I was ready to pack my bags and move. I can't quite describe it, but the village just felt like home. For many of its residents, like Christine Clayton, the owner of Parbold Deli, this village has been their home for several decades, and it's clear why they don't want to leave.
Christine, 56, told the ECHO: "I've been here a long time, I've known the area for fifty-odd years but I've only owned this shop for just over two years. I would say in that time I don't think Parbold has changed much. There are a few extra
