Andre Onana Man United transfer decision may already be made as new goalkeeper hints emerge
So many Manchester United players must wonder where their future lies beyond this summer.
Head coach Ruben Amorim will, no doubt, want wholesale changes to a squad which is currently unsuited to his system. The Manchester Evening News understands that United are aiming to sanction the permanent exits of 10 players this summer.
Of course, that's easier said than done with so many on lengthy big-money contracts, which will make even loan exits difficult. But it's a necessary transformation that needs to take place at Old Trafford if Amorim is to enjoy any form of success at M16 and beyond going into next season.
One player who divides opinion like few others is goalkeeper Andre Onana. The Cameroon international arrived at United in the summer of 2023 - and he was seen as an upgrade on David De Gea's ball-playing abilities.
And yet the former Inter Milan stopper has rarely demonstrated any sort of confidence with the ball at his feet. In fairness to Onana, that may be partly down to the defenders in front of him.
But with so many poor mistakes across a season and a half, there must be question marks over his future at the Reds. Does anybody think Onana is good enough to help United challenge for the Premier League title one day?
Perhaps the club themselves have doubts. Recent reports, via Spanish publication AS, have linked Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia with a move to Old Trafford. Premier League rivals Arsenal and European giantsReal Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked - among others.
Garcia is not the only goalkeeper being mooted, either. Reports from German publication Sport Bild suggest that United wanted to sign Eintracht Frankfurt stopper Kaua Santos last summer.
