'I've never seen anything like it': Shock as horror Piccadilly Gardens bus crash leaves woman fighting for her life
Crowds swarmed Piccadilly Gardens in horror this afternoon after a bus mounted the pavement and smashed into a bubble tea shop - leaving one woman fighting for her life.
Emergency services raced to the bus station at the heart of the city at around 1pm on Monday (October 16), where a Diamond bus had shattered the shopfront of T4 in City Tower. A huge police cordon was put in place as paramedics and fire crews assisted casualties at the scene. One woman was seriously injured and is understood to be fighting for her life in hospital. Nine others rushed to were also taken to hospital for treatment.
Shocked onlookers told the Manchester Evening News they had 'never seen anything like it' as the dramatic scenes unfolded, with one witness adding it was 'one of the most horrible scenes I’ve witnessed'. The driver, a 64-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

One eyewitness told the M.E.N he saw the bus stop at the zebra crossing at the bus station before 'uncontrollably flying' onto the pavement, where there were several bystanders.
"Then it crashed into the shop with the glass shattering everywhere," he added. "It looked like people were hurt. It was horrendous, I've never seen anything like it.
"People came running over from streets away the collision was that loud."
North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) confirmed one person had been 'seriously injured' with nine others rushed to hospital following the crash.
