‘I’ve never experienced this’ - Man City hero Kevin De Bruyne shares injury update

Kevin De Bruyne says his recovery from a hamstring injury is 'on track' - although the Manchester City midfielder has still not been given a date for his return.

Opening up about his current ailment, the Belgium international says his family is getting used to him being at home a lot more as he continues his recovery from surgery. “I have had to convince my wife to continue playing football for a few more years, because my family is quickly getting used to Dad being home so often. But all in all, it was a good time to experience this,” he says.

While City fans will be pleased to hear that retirement plans are not yet on the agenda, no definitive timescale has been given on when De Bruyne will be in action again. Pep Guardiola said he expects his talisman back earlier than expected, but the club are taking care with his return.

The Belgian went under the knife for his hamstring injury after aggravating it 12 minutes into the opening-day win over Burnley. It was a problem that saw him flag to the bench before being taken off in June’s Champions League final.

“Last season I had been struggling with my hamstring for two months, but just in the week before the Champions League final I felt my best. And just then my body decides that enough is enough,” he explains in a chat with HBVL.

“I have never experienced this before, I have never had such a serious injury. A hamstring operation is not very common either. After the match against Burnley, we took scans, referred to several surgeons and they all said I needed surgery.
