'I've killed Caroline....' Drunken brute murdered partner in sick stabbing while she sat on the toilet

A jury took just 90 minutes to convict a brute with a history of attacking his partner with murder - after he stabbed her to death on the toilet.

David Liptrot, 56, had pleaded not guilty to the murder of his partner Caroline Gore, 43, a cleaner from Wigan. But following a two-week trial a jury took just 90 minutes to find him guilty. Ms Gore died after being stabbed seven times in her flat at Douglas House, Wigan in October 2023. She was been sitting on the toilet when she was stabbed by Liptrot who ‘lay in wait’ for her following a drunken row. She was left with neck, chest and abdomen wounds, jurors were told.

After he was convicted, Judge Goddard KC told the emotionless defendant: "You have now been convicted by the jury's verdict of the murder of Caroline Gore. You will be aware there can only be one sentence. It will be for me to decide the factual basis on which I'm going to proceed to sentence."

Liptrot, of Shelley Close, Coppull, will be handed a life sentence on August 16 when the judge will decide the minimum tariff before
