"I understand" – Insider shares conflicting update after big contract claim involving Spurs ace

Tottenham Hotspur have not opened ‘talks’ over a new contract for wing-back Ryan Sessegnon, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 21-year-old’s existing deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2025, but he has been enjoying a mini resurgence under the tutelage of new manager Antonio Conte.

Sessegnon was one of the most promising and highly-rated youngsters in English football prior to his move to Tottenham after excelling with boyhood club Fulham.

Throughout 2017/18, the England Under-21 international racked up 16 goals and provided a further eight assists across 49 Championship appearances as the Cottagers won promotion via the play-offs.

Despite Fulham’s immediate relegation from the Premier League, Sessegnon still registered eight goal contributions the following season in his maiden top-flight campaign.

The versatile youngster’s impressive exploits clearly caught the eye of the Spurs hierarchy who splashed out £25 million to secure his services, but things haven’t gone to plan since then.

Injuries and a drop-off in form limited Sessegnon to just 772 minutes of action in all competitions during 2019/20, leading to a season-long loan spell at Hoffenheim last term.

In Germany, the left-sided dynamo got his career back on track with two goals and three assists in 29 outings, and he’s slowly becoming an influential figure for Conte.

Sessegnon featured from the off in just two of Conte’s opening 10 Premier League games at the helm for a variety of reasons, yet he’s working his way back into the side of late.
