I tried the £28 barbecue meat hamper that feeds six and there was one thing that really bugged me

Barbecue season is here and although the weather for it may have gone temporarily AWOL, many supermarkets and butchers are pushing various deals and offers when it comes to meat. One of those is Muscle Food with its Essential BBQ Meats Selection.

Muscle Food is an online retailer popular among fitness fans for its 'high protein healthy food', as well as hampers such as the Essential BBQ Meats Selection. It also offers Prepped Meals and Weight Loss Meal Plans.

For us though, it was all about the meat. The Essential BBQ Meats Selection hamper is priced at £28 and includes your standard barbecue checklist - Cumberland sausages, free range steak burgers, chicken drumsticks, chicken steaks, extra lean chicken burgers, jumbo hot dogs and diced chicken breast in a Piri Piri marinade.

According to Muscle Food, the hamper feeds up to six, so it works out at around £4.66 per person.

Now during a cost of living crisis where the price of food is constantly on the increase, the thought of being able to feed six people for less than a fiver each does sound appealing.

But how does that price compare if you were to do buy items individually from the likes of Aldi, Tesco and Sainsbury's?

And with it being health food, are you sacrificing flavour for low fat?

Let's go through each item - and full disclosure, it was all cooked on my trusty George Foreman or in the oven because it hasn't stopped raining.

Free range steak burgers x4

First thing that struck me was there was only four - in a hamper
