'I sold all my belongings and now live off grid in a container home'

A woman has taken the bold step of selling all her possessions to embrace an off-grid lifestyle in a container home amidst the rural beauty of Scotland. Robyn Swan, aged 32, harboured a dream of living close to nature and began exploring the concept of off-grid living around seven years ago. After years of saving, Robyn took the plunge last December, purchasing nearly seven acres of land near Stirling for a sum of £185,000.

To finance this significant purchase, Robyn, who runs a dog-walking business, parted with everything she owned, including her furniture, television, and even her car.

Additionally, Robyn remortgaged her Stirling property, which she now lets out, ensuring her mortgage and bills are covered. From Stirling, Scotland, Robyn shared: "I discovered pretty early on that it's near on impossible to buy a farm without a big bundle of cash."

She further explained her financial strategy: "After I remortgaged my house, I then had the bundle of cash sitting there, making me a cash buyer. I sold basically everything else including my car, TV and furniture and currently rent out the house so I can live on the land without any bills."

For Robyn, the timing felt perfect: "It just felt like the right decision at the right time in my life." She described how things seamlessly came together: "Everything just fell into place."

Robyn's determination to live off-grid was finally realised when she acquired a plot of land that had been on the market for six years. As the sole prospective buyer truly committed to an off-grid existence, she managed to secure the land.
