I see Rangers people in charge who know 'what’s what' and Jefte and Cortes interest me – Barry Ferguson

The rest of us are about to put the world on pause. Over the course of the next month or so it will probably begin to feel as if we’re spending our whole lives at the Euros.

But, behind the scenes at Rangers, these next three or four weeks could be the busiest and most important time of the year. Because if my old club doesn’t get its business done in the transfer market as quickly as possible then they could find themselves up against it before a ball has even been kicked next season.

The good news is that, as far as I can see, the people in charge at Ibrox know exactly what’s required. There’s no danger of chairman John Bennett putting his feet up and watching what’s going on in Germany when there’s so much for him to attend to. Bennett has already stepped up to take over the responsibilities as chief executive after James Bisgrove left the club for life-changing money in Saudi Arabia.

Bisgrove may have had his critics over the years but I got to know him reasonably well and I found him an impressive individual. I was disappointed to see him leave because I liked and respected the guy but, as we’ve seen with players over the last couple of years, when the Middle East comes calling, the money they throw around can be head spinning.

I’m sure James was made an offer he couldn’t refuse. Good luck to him. But I’m not overly worried about what that means to the big summer rebuild at Rangers because I firmly believe he and Bennett were already aligned with Philippe Clement in terms of what is required this summer.

And now that Bennett is at the helm I expect he will press ahead with a number of the deals that were already well in the pipeline. He will know the importance of getting as many of them done as quickly as
