'I see myself a lot' - Thierry Henry names Man City ace who is best Premier League has ever seen

Thierry Henry believes Kevin De Bruyne is the best creative midfielder the Premier League has ever seen "by a distance".

De Bruyne enjoyed another outstanding season as City won the treble, registering 10 goals and an incredible 28 assists across all competitions. The Belgian forged an instant relationship with Erling Haaland to take his creative game to the next level.

After a period of struggle midway through the season, Pep Guardiola told his midfield talisman to return to basics before the Champions League last-16 second-leg against RB Leipzig. He duly complied with an outstanding performance in a 7-0 win, going on to enjoy his best form of the season in the following months.

Henry knows De Bruyne well from two spells as assistant coach for the Belgian national team, and while speaking about previous winners of the PFA Players' Player of the Year Award, he reserved special praise for the City star.

“I see myself a lot with Kevin De Bruyne," Henry told the PFA. "It’s very difficult to understand his brain. I came across him in the national team.

“What he sees, what he tries to do… I think, for me, as a midfielder, a creator, he’s the best I’ve seen in this league. By a distance.

“I’ll explain why I see myself in him. I had the same character. When something wasn’t going the way I liked, I used to lose my marbles. This guy is the same. If you take one piece of the watch, the watch doesn’t function the same.

“He gets frustrated. I used to be the same. I had a strong bonding with him. He is a special player. I think what we’ve seen with him is just crazy. I love him. He’s an outstanding player.”
