'I said at half time' - Wayne Rooney made this Birmingham City prediction
Wayne Rooney claimed he knew Derby County would score in injury time against Birmingham City.
The Rams manager was delighted as Krystian Bielik produced a stunning overhead kick to snatch a 2-2 draw.
While he was not happy with his side’s overall performance, he expressed his pride at the fact the embattled Rams were able to fight back to take at least something.
Off the field the day started with a march by Rams fans to draw attention to the club’s plight and on it, it ended with a morale-boosting denouement.
One which Rooney said he predicted. “We’ve been writing our own scripts,” Rooney said.
“I said to them at half time ‘We will score’, I actually said 92 minutes, it was actually a bit later. Fans walk away from the stadium with optimism, hope and pride.
“We will see where we end up, I believe we have got the quality and mix of experience and youth to stay up.
“I am extremely proud, as a young manager, still developing, so proud of those players what they are doing.
“These players represent me as well as the club, how I played, my character – and they have to because everything that has been thrown at us has been difficult, to get that character into players who were playing Under 18s and Under 23s football has been a lot of work.
“I really believe the point today will be massive.
“They players are absolutely sky high in the dressing room it’s my job to get them down and ready for Wednesday.
“As a team today we weren’t good enough, as individuals we weren’t good enough but one thing you can’t take away is the desire. We will keep fighting.”
