'I prefer it' - Man United fans split on the idea of a season in the Europa Conference League

Manchester United are in a situation they definitely didn't expect to be in at the start of the season. With the arrival of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, many fans thought the club would be competing for trophies and possibly challenging for the Premier League title.

However, with one game left of the season to play, United have crashed out of every cup competition and will either qualify for the Europa League or the Europa Conference League next season.

United are two points ahead of West Ham United in seventh after their 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Sunday afternoon. Ralf Rangnick's side will need a win against Crystal Palace to guarantee their place in the Europa League next season, with a draw or a loss opening the door for West Ham to leapfrog them on the final day.

But United fans are torn on how they want the final round of fixtures to play out. Before it became guaranteed that the club would be in Europe next season, some fans even wanted Erik ten Hag to enjoy his first season at Old Trafford with no European football at all.

On one hand, Europa League football would be more attractive to potential transfer targets, especially since United can't offer them Champions League football. But on the other, with the lower quality of the Europa Conference League, it would allow the club to rest more players in midweek and also give Ten Hag more time to implement his system.

The fans made their feelings known on social media. Here are a selection of the comments taken from Twitter:
