'Going to be class' - Manchester United fans rave over Jurrien Timber transfer claims

Manchester United need reinforcements in the summer window before Erik ten Hag embarks on his first campaign in England. Signings are needed across the board after a disappointing season which saw the team finish in sixth with their lowest points total in the Premier League era.

There will likely be reinforcements signed in both the midfield and forward areas, but it seems like the defence will also need to be upgraded as United conceded 57 goals this season; another unwanted record. But could Ten Hag return to his former team for a defender?

Though Ajax was impressive in attack, the player that seemed to gain the most plaudits was centre-back Jurrien Timber. The 20-year-old defender won the club's Talent of the Year award and it seems like Ten Hag wants to bring him to Old Trafford as well.

Though rumours have been circulating, there has been no concrete information on who United will prioritise as a defensive signing, with the Manchester Evening News understanding that Villarreal's Pau Torres is also appreciated by the club. But the Guardian is reporting that the club's interest in Timber is 'concrete and serious' and they have begun talks with Ajax over the player.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano went on to say that Ajax could ask for around £43m for the player who has two years left on his contract, but they also may offer Timber a short contract in order to keep him in Amsterdam for at least one more season. And with the news that a move for the Dutch defender may be heating up, United fans have begun to discuss the deal on social media.
