I played against Kobbie Mainoo on his full Manchester United debut and one thing stood out

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford believes Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo's maturity on the ball has stood out the most as he prepares to potentially make his England debut this week.

Mainoo started the season heavily tipped to break into the United squad, particularly after his impressive performance against Arsenal in pre-season. However, a freak injury suffered against Real Madrid saw the youngster sidelined until the end of November when he was thrown in at the deep end to start at Goodison Park.

The occasion did not overwhelm Mainoo though and he has since moved from strength to strength becoming an undroppable for Erik ten Hag in the process. Earlier this week, Gareth Southgate made the late decision to pick the 18-year-old for the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

Mainoo has since trained with his new teammates at St George's Park, one of whom featured against him during his debut on Merseyside. Asked about his first thoughts on the new addition to the Three Lions, Pickford was full of praise for the youngster.

He told talkSPORT: "I think he made his full debut against us at Goodison Park. I remember the manager mentioning that they had the young lad playing centre-mid.

"I knew already that he was a top player, from what I had heard. He has shone for Man United this season and he has kept his spot.

"I have only trained with him for a day but in his performances for Man United he looks so calm on the ball and he plays with such maturity." Mainoo will be hoping he can impress Southgate enough in the next few days to earn a call-up to the England
