"I never get enough rest" - Rodri sends Man City fitness warning ahead of bumper season

Man City treble-winning star Rodri admits he has concerns about the packed fixture schedule ahead of another bumper season.

The Spain international made the most appearances out of any City player last season, playing in 56 of their 61 matches across all competitions. In fact, he was only not in the squad for one first-team match, missing the first derby win over Manchester United through a small injury.

Rodri featured for City in all three of their pre-season fixtures in Asia and played the entirety of the match as his side lost to Arsenal in the Community Shield last weekend.

He looks set to play another integral role for City over the coming campaign, which will see his side compete for the Uefa Super Cup and the Club World Cup, and he has voiced a slight concern at the number of games he might be required to play again.

Asked if he felt he got enough rest this summer, he said: “To be honest, I never get enough rest. I feel pretty well recovered after having about one month off. It was a good break, and we have a coach who understands and who gives us everything he can to recover.

“I think we are the last team in the Premier League to start pre-season because he understands that rest is important.

“So, yes, I’m very happy about last season and how it finished, and now we go into another season, and it’s going to be a long one.”

Rodri not only made the most appearances for City last season, but he also played another 10 times for Spain, playing every second of their World Cup run, European Championship qualifiers, and their triumphant Nations League tournament.

The 27-year-old is flattered to play such an integral role for both club
