'I'm not surprised' - Inside the rise of Manchester United transfer target Patrick Dorgu
FC Nordsjaelland technical director Alexander Riget has provided a detailed insight of the type of footballer and character Manchester United will inherit if they complete the signing of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News on Monday, United are in talks with the Italian club to try and sign the wing-back ahead of the transfer window closing on February 3.
United are desperate to strengthen their left-sided wing-back options before the bell sounds and Dorgu has been identified as an ideal fit for head coach Ruben Amorim's three-at-the-back formation.
The Danish international, 20, has caught the eye in Serie A so far this season and his versatile profile makes him an attractive option for United. He can play as a right-winger and as a left-sided centre-back in addition to being a left-sided wing-back.
Dorgu joined Lecce from Nordsjaelland's youth system in July 2022 and he has excelled, which has come as no surprise for Riget, who oversaw his development from a young age.
"I'm not surprised from his mentality and personality that he can do it," Riget told Sport Witness. "Because he has never been a player who has been nervous before a game or anxious about it. I will say he is very uncomplicated.
"He is always like, 'put me on the pitch and then I will perform'. That’s a good asset to have if you want to become a football player and I'm not surprised that he has been capable of taking the steps from a mental perspective because he's just playing football and doing the job."
